Exhibition: REVISITED: Highlights of the Permanent Collection201 E Pascagoula St
Jackson, MS 39201
Overview
The permanent collection of the City of Jackson dates back to 1926 when the Ligon House on State Street was donated to the City and became the Municipal Art Gallery. It then grew under the care of volunteers, City staff, and what was at the time known as the Mississippi Art Association. The collection includes works by artists such as Andrew Bucci, Marie Hull, and the Wolfe family, and it continues to grow through the Spotlight exhibitions hosted at the Arts Center of Mississippi that feature a different Mississippi artist each month.
In REVISITED: Highlights of the Permanent Collection, forty five works are on view, paired in groups that combine works from the historic collection with recent acquisitions from contemporary artists in Mississippi. Ranging from paintings, prints, sculpture, and mixed media installation, this exhibition reminds us of the incredible impact that Mississippi artists have always had, and the legacy that contemporary artists continue to build today.
Please join us for the free opening reception Friday, June 26, from 5-8pm.
