Overview

AARP Mississippi and the Mississippi State Department of Health-Healthy Aging Bureau have partnered with The Mama Joe Project for an educational outreach to kickoff Alzheimer's & Brain Awareness. Core to the event is the screening of the documentary film My Mama Joe, Hope & Help, which highlights a family’s journey in caregiving for their matriarch as a person living with dementia. Interweaved with personal narrative is best practice guidance from scholars and practitioners throughout the country, including local residents of Greater Jackson.

Post-film the audience will be able to engage in conversation with local experts in film themes like caregiving, early detection for dementia, healthy aging and more. The event is free, and appropriate for all audiences and ages; advanced registration is required. Each attendee will receive a workbook, concessions combo, and additional materials from area organizations and agencies.
