Concrete Studio presented by Duvall Decker

April 17, 2026 @ 7:00 PM

Overview

Concrete Studio returns to Fondren for an evening of rapid-fire storytelling from eight local creators. Each speaker shares their story using only 20 images — 20 seconds each — making for a fast-paced, engaging format where no talk runs longer than seven minutes.

Hosted by architecture firm Duvall Decker, this free community gathering happens twice a year and celebrates the people, art, and culture that make Jackson home. Speakers explore inspiration drawn from people, places, and movements happening right here in the city.

This edition features Thabi Moyo (Local Manager of the National Folk Festival and Co-founder/Producer of Magnolia Sunset Markets), Tom Rice (Owner of Louise's), Marta Collier-Youngblood (Assistant VP for Strategic Initiatives & Social Justice at Tougaloo College), George Gillespie (Owner of Wing Mouth), Simone Cottrell (Cultural Strategist, Community Storyteller, and Deep South Creative), Denny Burkes (Drummer for The Vamps and Soul City Swingers), and Mila Lipinski (Architectural Designer).

The event takes place outside the studio, so bring your own chair. Drinks from Fertile Ground Beer and Cathead Distillery will be on hand, along with made-to-order gourmet hot dogs from Dad's Dogs.
