Jackson Marks America 250 with Free Concert, Museums and a Fireworks Finale
Celebrate America's 250th birthday at "Stars, Stripes & Symphony," a free July 4 concert at the Two Mississippi Museums capped by a City of Jackson fireworks finale.
A Free Evening of Music, History and Fireworks
This free public celebration takes place from 5 to 9 p.m. A concert of patriotic music by the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra, part of Downtown Jackson Partners' Levitt AMP Downtown Music Series, begins at 7:30 p.m. and features a historical narration of Mississippi's place in American history by MPB's Germaine Flood and a vocal performance by Opera Mississippi executive director John Christopher Adams.
The City of Jackson Lights Up the Sky
The night builds to a grand finale courtesy of the City of Jackson: a fireworks show following the symphony's performance of patriotic songs. As the orchestra's final notes settle over Entergy Plaza, the sky above downtown will erupt in color, capping off the evening with the kind of show that's become a Fourth of July tradition in cities across the country, only this year, with the added weight of America's 250th birthday behind it. It's the perfect reason to bring a blanket, claim a spot on the plaza early and stay through to the very last spark.
