Detailing the emotional roller coaster that chemotherapy offers served as an adjunct therapy all its own. Buoyed by a terrific medical team at the Baptist Cancer Center and her family and friends, she utilized the writing platform Substack to detail each treatment; the good, the bad, and the ugly. Janne Swearengen has had many jobs, but only two vocations. As a junior high teacher in Hartsville, Tennessee, she adored teaching and learned more from her students than they ever learned from her. Her second vocation evolved when she joined the University of Wisconsin’s Center for Health Systems Research and Analysis and Long Term Care Institute for a rewarding experience helping nursing facilities across the country assess the quality of their care delivery. After retiring in 2012, Janne reinvented herself; became a passionate vegan, publishing a daily vlog titled The Chronicles of Pondlandia. Janne lives in Madison MS. with her two rescue dogs, Puck, and Calamity Jane, missing her late husband, Larry “Big Solid” Swearengen every day. You can find Janne writing an assortment of essays and life experiences on Substack.
