History Is Lunch: Tracy Carr, Lucius Lampton, and Holly Lange “Holding Court with the Queen: Conversations with Ellen Gilchrist”

August 19, 2026 @ 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM

Overview

At noon on Wednesday, August 19, a panel will discuss the four decades of writing and twenty-six works of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry that established Ellen Gilchrist as one of the South’s most enduring authors as part of the History Is Lunch series. Panelists include Tracy Carr, author of Conversations with Ellen Gilchrist; Lucius Lampton, chief editor of the Journal of the Mississippi State Medical Association; and Holly Lange, founder of the Mississippi Book Festival. Carr’s book features eighteen interviews on Gilchrist’s work and life through the headstrong, honest, and outrageous southern female characters for which she is known. This free event will take place in the Craig H. Neilsen Auditorium of the Two Mississippi Museums and will stream live on the MDAH Facebook page and YouTube channel. Copies of Conversations with Ellen Gilchrist will be available for purchase, and a book signing will follow.
