Overview
At noon on Wednesday, September 2, Kelly Ellis, visiting associate professor of English at Jackson State University, will present on her poetry collection Solum as part of the History Is Lunch series. Centered on the life of her great-grandfather, George Asbury Kelley, a shoemaker at the Jackson Shoe Hospital, Solum explores family history through poetry. Ellis will discuss how she constructs narratives using government documents, archival information, family photos, oral histories, and family lore. This free event will take place in the Craig H. Neilsen Auditorium of the Two Mississippi Museums and will stream live on the MDAH Facebook page and YouTube channel.
