Overview
At noon on Wednesday, July 8, Caroline Bayne, assistant professor of Communication and Media Studies and director of Film Studies at Millsaps College, will present on segregation in mass media in Jackson from the 1950s to the 1960s as part of the History Is Lunch series. Bayne will focus on the seventeen-minute civil rights speech Medgar Evers gave on WLBT that aired for one night only, on May 20, 1963. Footage of the speech has remained inaccessible since then. This free event will take place in the Craig H. Neilsen Auditorium of the Two Mississippi Museums and will stream live on the MDAH Facebook page and YouTube channel.
