Overview

At noon on Wednesday, June 24, April Holm, assistant professor of history and associate director of the Center for Civil War Research at the University of Mississippi, will discuss how churches shaped major evangelical denominations and influenced the relationship between religious institutions and the federal government. Drawing on her book In A Kingdom Divided: Evangelicals, Loyalty, and Sectionalism in the Civil War Era, Holm will explore the intersections of religion, morality, and politics during a time of national crisis as part of the History Is Lunch series. This program is part of the MDAH Religion Initiative, which is made possible by a grant through Lilly Endowment’s Religion and Cultural Institutions Initiative. This free event will take place in the Craig H. Neilsen Auditorium of the Two Mississippi Museums and will stream live on the MDAH Facebook page and YouTube channel.
