Overview
Enroll your youth in interactive summer camps that center on the importance of voting and civic engagement. Below are details for the Freedom School Camp:
Inspired by the freedom schools of 1964, campers will deepen their understanding of the Mississippi Civil Rights Movement and its impact on the world as they learn the stories of local heroes in their communities. Students will discover the dynamics of leadership within communities, the meaning of civic duty, and the empowering act of voting during camp. The July 7–18 camp session is geared towards rising sixth through eighth grade students.
Space is limited to twenty-five campers. Register here. To register online for either camp, please use the "search" bar on our website and look for "camp." Payment can be made online, or you can pay with cash or check by visiting us at the Two Mississippi Museums. Registration is $150 for the two-week camp and includes lunch and two snacks each day. For more information, contact Jasmine Holmes, MDAH education and outreach manager, at 601-576-6773 or at jholmes@mdah.ms.gov.
