Fall CEU Educator Workshop: Photography and the Making of Collective Memory

October 9, 2026 @ 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM

Overview

How do photographs become history?

In this hands-on workshop, educators will explore the role photography has played in shaping Mississippi’s collective memory—from iconic Civil Rights photographs to family albums, newspaper front pages, and contemporary visual storytelling. Through the lens of photography, participants will examine how images influence public understanding, whose perspectives have historically shaped Mississippi’s visual identity, and how artists and image-makers continue to redefine the stories that future generations will inherit.

This free, full day CEU workshop worth 0.6 CEUs is open to the first 25 K-12 public, private, or homeschool current educators to register. Refreshments, lunch, and CEU’s are provided.
