Centennial Giants: Coltrane & Davis

October 26, 2026 @ 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM

Overview

Innovators, icons, and eternal voices of American music, their legacies endure.

In an extraordinary twist of history, Miles Davis and John Coltrane, two of the most revolutionary figures in American music, were both born in 1926. Their paths crossed in the legendary Miles Davis Quintet, where Davis’s cool, understated trumpet met Coltrane’s fiery, searching saxophone. Together, they helped shape the sound of modern jazz, crafting timeless recordings like Kind of Blue. Though their musical visions eventually diverged, Davis constantly reinventing genres, Coltrane pursuing spiritual and avant-garde frontiers, both men pushed the boundaries of artistic expression and left indelible marks on generations of musicians.

The Larry Panella Quintet bring the music of these two legends to Duling Hall in this jazzy tribute concert.
