Overview
The Blues is Still Alright: Mississippi Blues in Portrait and Place features the Tattoo work of local artist Jimmy Bogan. This exhibition explores Mississippi musicians and landscapes, reminding us of the shared history that we exist in.
Bogan is a Mississippi-based visual artist and tattooer whose work explores Southern Black history, identity, and cultural memory. Working primarily with tattoo techniques on silicone rubber practice skin, he creates portraits of Mississippi blues legends and scenes rooted in Delta juke joint culture. Bogan began tattooing in 2006 and has operated studios since 2009, developing a practice that bridges fine art and tattoo tradition. His work reflects a commitment to preserving regional stories through unconventional materials, honoring the people and places that shaped American music and Southern identity.
This exhibition opens with a free reception open to the public on July 3 from 5-7 pm and is open July 3 - August 2. Our hours are Monday-Friday 9am-5pm and Saturday 11am-4pm.
