Mediterranean Reimagined
The words “fresh,” “seasonal” and “unique” are three words that are never lost on The Manship.Since opening in late October of 2013, this restaurant has wowed Jackson locals with its fresh, upscale dining atmosphere that pairs perfectly with the Southern flair on traditional Mediterranean dishes featured on the menu.

Located in the city’s Belhaven neighborhood, the restaurant is known for their menu items such as wood-fired pizzas and duck wings, and it’s far from just another place to “grab a bite to eat.” Chef Alex Eaton sees that each dish the kitchen produces is made with local, in-season produce. The idea and purpose of The Manship’s menu is to “reflect the relationship between chef and harvest.”
Eaton, a Jackson native and Ole Miss graduate, didn’t initially set out to be a restaurant owner and chef. He first began his secondary education journey in construction management, but later changed his area of study to marketing after his junior year. Once he had his four-year degree, Eaton attended Johnson and Wales University in North Carolina, where he learned the cooking skills he uses at The Manship.

From there, he slowly worked his way through various restaurant kitchens until he met Steven O’Neill. “We had a lot of mutual friends. Steven wanted to open a restaurant, and he wanted me to join him in the venture,” says Eaton.
After working hard to make opening The Manship happen, which included raising funds and having a hand in construction decisions, the team “started out of the gate strong.”
Since then, The Manship and its creators have become Jackson favorites and well-known names. Eaton has been awarded titles such as “King of American Seafood” in 2016 in The Great American Seafood Cook-off, and “Best New Chef” in 2015 by Best of Jackson. O’Neill has also won the title of “Best Rising Entrepreneur” in 2015 by Best of Jackson.
