Some restaurants serve food. Nell Grace serves a whole experience. Tucked into a renovated brick home on Church Street — just steps from the legendary Farish Street District — this downtown Jackson gem blends Southern soul food, Louisiana Cajun tradition, and live music into something you won't find anywhere else in the city.

Co-owners Marc and Devan Rowe drew from their Louisiana roots to build a menu that leans Cajun without abandoning Mississippi. The result is food with personality: a Cajun burger built on a hand-pattied beef-and-sausage patty slathered in house-made Cajun mayo, a catfish atchafalaya layered with hard-fried catfish, etouffee sauce, and shrimp over white rice, and New Orleans-style beignets dusted with powdered sugar that double as appetizer and dessert. Lunch doesn't have to break the bank either — the blue plate special runs just $12 for an entree, two sides, and honey-drizzled cornbread.

On Friday nights, the Silky Sax Man — saxophonist Thomas Johnson — works the room, turning dinner into a full-on event. The space itself sets the mood before the food even arrives: a floral photo wall, leather lounge furniture, and a warm, cozy atmosphere that surprises first-time visitors in the best possible way.

Nell Grace is open Monday through Thursday, 11am–8pm, and Friday through Saturday, 11am–10pm, at 111 E. Church St., Jackson, MS. Come hungry.
