How Community Volunteers Are Helping Grow the Museum Trail Capitol Green Connector
Volunteers turned out along Jackson's Capitol Green Connector on August 17 for a Museum Trail community planting day, adding new trees and landscaping as the trail's next phase takes shape.
It's a small but visible step in a bigger effort to link the city's museums, culture, and neighborhoods on foot and by bike.
Volunteers from Entergy Mississippi and Jackson Heart Foundation turned out along the Capitol Green Connector along Commerce Street on August 17 for a Museum Trail community planting day, adding new trees and landscaping as construction continues on the trail's next phase into Downtown Jackson. The plantings will bring future shade, support native habitat, and improve stormwater management along the corridor.
New Trees and Landscaping Along the Corridor
The new plantings also create a more welcoming environment for people walking and biking along the corridor. The event highlighted the role community volunteers can play in shaping public spaces and helping projects like this one move forward.
How the Capitol Green Connector Links Downtown Jackson
The Capitol Green Connector will extend the Museum Trail through the heart of Downtown Jackson, creating a new pedestrian and bicycle route connecting the Old Capitol Museum, Hal & Mal's and Martins, and the Two Mississippi Museums, along with other nearby destinations. This segment is an important link in the larger trail network and is planned to eventually connect with the future Arts District Connector along Court Street, expanding safe, accessible movement between downtown neighborhoods, cultural institutions, businesses, and public spaces.
Who's Supporting the Project
The project is supported by Entergy Mississippi's Environmental Initiatives Fund, the Capitol Complex Improvement District, the Mississippi Outdoor Stewardship Trust Fund, and the Community Foundation for Mississippi through Jackson Heart Foundation. SoHo Landscaping prepared the soil, plants, and mulch ahead of the event and helped make the planting day possible.
What's Next for the Museum Trail
As the connector moves closer to completion, Jackson Heart Foundation continues working to expand the Museum Trail, improve access to alternative transportation infrastructure, and create healthier, greener connections throughout the city.
