Couchfest V Opens The Basement Door on Jackson's Music Scene

In Jackson, there is a whole music scene that lives loudly beneath the surface.

Couchfest V marks the fifth annual celebration of DIY music, punk rock, and a community built around independent music in the City With Soul.

What Is Couchfest?

No giant stages and no major ads, just good music and good times like you might catch in a college living room, on the porches of dive bars and in a 1990s backyard. Couchfest V will be held on April 17 and April 18 with a lineup including Surfwax, Headcannon, Snake Meadow Hill, and many more.

Hosted by Urban Foxes, the event brings together local artists for performances across the weekend in one space. It's not built like a traditional festival. There's no big stage, no heavy production, no separation between the artist and the crowd. You walk in, find a place to stand or sit, and listen.

Live Music, Original Songs, and an Art Market

The lineup leans heavily on original music. Songwriters, smaller bands and independent artists use the day to play what they've been working on, and the venue flows into the backyard art market on April 18, which is packed with wares, crafts, and goods produced by local artisans.

Jackson is known for food and music, and that definitely extends into the world of alternative grooves. There are artists here consistently writing and playing, but much of it exists outside of larger venues and formal shows. Couchfest is all about giving musicians and creators the space to be seen, test the waters, toe the line, and explore new sounds with people who just love music and show culture.

Urban Foxes and the Spirit Behind the Fest

Urban Foxes has been intentional about creating space for that kind of work. The goal has never been to scale it up or turn it into something bigger than it needs to be. It's all about giving artists a place to play and feel supported.

When you come to jam or hang at Couchfest, you'll see musicians, friends, people who follow the scene closely and people who are just curious enough to walk in and stay for a while. It's easy to come and go, or stay longer than you planned. Tickets are wristbands and they give you access to the full event all weekend.
