PUBLIC ART

Plain walls have become the newest canvas for Jackson artists to showcase their work. In recent years, the public art and mural scene has flourished, thanks in part to the creative spirits of artists like Scott Allen, Reshonda Perryman, Eli Childers, Gavin Bird, Justin Ransburg, Sabrina Howard, Adrianne Dominic and many others. From works like Perryman's "JXN Icons" to Allen's larger than life "Welcome to Jackson" greeting as you enter downtown, and now, the "state's longest mural" - painted by Gavin Bird on the Museum Trail - you don't have to look far to find creativity on display.

OTHER CREATIVE PURSUITS

WOLFE STUDIO

Wolfe Studio has been a hub of fine art making since its founding in 1946 by Jackson visual arts pioneers Karl and Mildred Nungester Wolfe. Wolfe Studio’s patch of woods off Old Canton Road, blooms and birdsong are as central in its appeal as the small showroom of gaily painted ceramics (the Wolfe birds are among their most popular offerings) and fine art paintings and prints.

PEARL RIVER GLASS STUDIO

What started as a single artist’s desire to broaden the appeal and sensibilities of stained glass has since become the center of an art world revolution. Pearl River Glass Studio — now 45+ years in the making — specializes in stained class applications both big and small. The 10,000-square-foot facility is open for tours so that visitors can glimpse the scope and artistry necessary to bend light into abstract expressions and statements of the sun’s glory.
