Building a Stronger Jackson Through Travel
October 27, 2020
In the tradition of storytelling, Kim Lewis has a somewhat non-traditional story to tell.
As Visit Jackson’s Communications & Destination Development Manager, the San Diego, CA native serves as the organization’s media’s contact. Her areas of expertise include the economic impact of events and conferences, local event information, and the work of visiting influencers and travel writers.
In other words, Lewis’s job is to promote Jackson as a tourism brand and a legitimate destination market, to tell the stories of the City With Soul.
Lewis began her tourism career in Vail, CO, working for Vail Associates as an in-flight concierge. On flights to New York three times a week, Lewis served on-board guests with recommendations and reservations for restaurants, family and group activities, and necessities.
In Jackson, the role demands a similar focus.
“I’m in front of people who want to know more, people who need my advice and expertise,” Lewis said. “I have the opportunity to share unique and positive things about the city. Most of the time, what I share ends up on camera or in print, where it is then shared time and time again.”
The Jackson hospitality and tourism industry consists of hotels, restaurants, attractions, and partnering groups like the Downtown Jackson Partners and the City of Jackson.
“Through collaboration and our collective messaging, we all contribute to the success of the industry.”
Lewis said Jackson has a unique and vibrant history, one she is willing to share time and time again.
“You come here to experience our musical legends, the stories of the Civil Rights movement and Pulitzer Prize-winning authors. You stay for the James Beard Award-winning chefs and restaurants, our talented arts community and our hospitality. I can proudly say we genuinely are the City With Soul.”
