As the City of Jackson and its surrounding communities continue to recover from the recent water crisis, Atmos Energy announced it will support ongoing relief efforts by making significant contributions to the Community Foundation for Mississippi, Visit Jackson and United Way of the Capital Area.

“Atmos Energy is committed to Fueling Safe and Thriving Communities, because helping our neighbors is a part of our culture and who we are as a company,” said Mathew Davidson, Atmos Energy Mississippi division president. “The whole city is rallying together in this time of need, and we are focused on providing whatever help we can to address the challenges facing our community in the short and long-term.”

The Community Foundation for Mississippi (CFM) connects donors, communities, and non-profit organizations to make meaningful and lasting change. Atmos Energy will contribute $50,000 to CFM’s Disaster Relief Fund and JPS Emergency Response Fund. Half of that donation will help fuel bright minds and healthy futures for students at Jackson Public Schools, and the other half will support the Hub for the Hungry program which unites Mississippi nonprofit agencies with food distribution companies and local farmers.

“We are so grateful for Atmos Energy’s unbelievably kind donation,” said Jane Alexander, Community Foundation for Mississippi president. “The Disaster Relief Fund was created to enhance disaster responses because donations to the fund can easily adapt to current needs athand, whether that is food, medical supplies, shelter or something completely unforeseen. A donation to this fund will aid in the long-term effort to make our city whole after this crisis.”

Atmos Energy is also making contributions to Visit Jackson’s Tourism Water Crisis Sustainability Grant program and United Way of the Capital Area’s business and non-profit grant program. Each organization will receive $12,500. Those funds will be used to help Jackson restaurants recover after unexpected, water-related issues.

“We are extremely grateful for Atmos Energy’s contribution to our Tourism Water Crisis Sustainability Grant. This support helps mitigate the financial pressure felt by Jackson lodging, restaurant, and museum/attractions industry sector partners during this challenging time. Atmos Energy has proven itself to be vested in our community by making this significant contribution to help sustain these entities and reinforce the legacy of the people that make Jackson, Mississippi, the City With Soul.” Dr. Rickey Thigpen, President & CEO of Visit Jackson.

“We are so grateful to Atmos Energy for this timely gift,” said McCelleis, President and CEO of United Way of the Capital Area. “The gravity of it will carry an exponential reach and support to our students, our families and communities.”
