Capital Pictures: Beguiled

May 14, 2026 @ 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM

Overview

Baby Doll is a Southern Gothic drama that explores desire, power, and moral decay in the rural American South. The story centers on Baby Doll, a young bride trapped in an unhappy marriage with an aging cotton gin owner, whose business rivalry with a neighboring Sicilian entrepreneur sparks manipulation, jealousy, and sexual tension. As personal and economic conflicts unfold, the play examines themes of innocence, exploitation, masculinity, and the shifting social landscape of the postwar South.

In partnership with the Mississippi Film Society, the Mississippi Museum of Art’s film series Capital Pictures returns with a celebration of the film adaptations of Mississippi dramatist, Tennessee Williams. Capital Pictures: Beguiled will explore William’s signature themes of sexuality, desire, and the weight of the past.
