The Camera as a Weapon: Black Photography and Storytelling

February 21, 2026 @ 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM

Overview

This talk examines how Black photography became a tool for truth, resistance, and self-definition.

When Black voices were ignored or distorted, Black photographers used cameras to document injustice, preserve dignity, and portray Black life's full humanity-from the Civil Rights Movement to daily moments of joy.

By controlling images, Black storytellers influenced historical perception.
