The Art of Conversation Over Great Food

A great conversation can develop with a stranger at a park, a parent bench outside of theater practice, or more commonly over a drink or a hot meal. Names and Faces in downtown Jackson is a restaurant and lounge created around the art of good conversation over a great meal and a handcrafted cocktail.

The Story Behind the Name

"You know when you're having a conversation with somebody, and they might mention a name. And you're like, 'I've heard the name before, but I can't put a face with it,'" said Terrance Patton, co-owner of Names and Faces, which opened in 2018. "Or vice versa, 'I know your face, but I can't remember your name.'"

Serving Downtown Jackson's Community

It was important to Patton and his business partner, Clarence Witherspoon, that the people in downtown Jackson had a place where they could come on their lunch break or for dinner and have food cooked for comfort and sold at a reasonable price. Seven years ago, the downtown area was in a recovery phase. Patton wanted to add to the new growth with an establishment that was sustainable for him and his guests.

From Bartender to Business Owner

Patton developed a talent for satisfying customers during his spiral of promotions at Freelon's The Groove. He started as a bartender and worked his way up to management during his 18-year stint. It was a period of learning and development that he couldn't get enough of. It matured to an entrepreneurial craving he couldn't shake.

"It was time to elevate, take a leap of faith, and open my own," said Patton, winner of the Jackson Free Press' 2021 and 2023 Best Bartender award. "I knew I wanted to open a place with simple American food, at a price where people can come every day and eat something different, and make it affordable for working downtown."

Daily Menu and Signature Dishes

The daily menu features a variety of options, including hamburgers, salads, signature sandwiches, po-boys, wings, and double-entree combos like catfish and shrimp, as well as wings and catfish. Patton serves a blue plate lunch every Wednesday. It's different each week, and it's never a selection from the regular menu items. In mingling with the customers, Patton is in tune with the culinary desires of his patrons and will fill any position at the establishment to get a smile of fulfilled approval.

Southern Hospitality in Jackson

It's a part of the hospitality that reigns supreme in Jackson. "In Jackson, it's the culture, the people, our Southern hospitality that's different," said Patton, a Memphis native. "We always speak to you, and we always welcome you with open arms."
