Jackson's barbecue landscape gains a compelling new voice as Boondocks BBQ establishes its presence in the Belhaven neighborhood. Owner Kody McCraney brings a 12-year family tradition from coastal Mississippi to the capital city, opening the brand's third location in the English Village Shopping Center.

The McCraney family's barbecue journey began in Lucedale before expanding to Wiggins, where they've spent over a decade perfecting their craft. Kody learned the restaurant business through hands-on family experience, understanding both what resonates with diners and what builds lasting success in the competitive food industry.

Jackson residents have already been introduced to Boondocks through an innovative partnership at Green Ghost Tacos in Fondren, where McCraney initially worked as a waiter before launching the collaboration. This creative pop-up venture allowed locals to discover his signature smoked meats—including tender brisket, flavorful wings, and specialty burgers—while demonstrating the strong market appetite for quality barbecue in the metro area.

The permanent Belhaven location occupies familiar space in English Village Shopping Center, offering diners a dedicated home for traditional Southern barbecue done right. Initially operating five days weekly (closed Sunday and Wednesday), the restaurant plans to adjust its schedule as the team builds momentum and responds to community demand.
