Tour Like a Local: Tim Bennett

A Florida by-way-of San Francisco native, Tim Bennett was a driving force behind the Mississippi Braves in Pearl and the Biloxi Shuckers on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

In his latest venture – managing Smith-Wills Stadium here in Jackson and the Hank Aaron Sports Academy located there – Bennett believes baseball can help write the “comeback” story in Jackson, too, empowering youth through education and America’s pastime.

What does an ideal 24 hours in Jackson entail?

It would definitely include food. I believe that the best part of Jackson is the great choices of food and the people that prepare it.

Where can we find your favorite sports events in the city?

Jackson State’s homecoming or Jackson State vs. Alcorn. I’m putting on some pretty good events for the youth over here too!

If you could only have one meal in Jackson, where would it be?

Either at Char or Taste of the Caribbean downtown.

Where are good spots to explore?

Take a look around all the campuses here. There's a lot to see. The Mississippi Sports Museum is right in our backyard at Smith Wills; The Mississippi Agriculture Museum, Children’s Museum, and the Natural Science Museum as well. Hitting those places will show you that Jackson is progressive. Go down to Fondren, our safe, walkable district where there’s something for everyone.
