From Cold Brew to Caviar: Jackson's Spring Specials Have Arrived

Any Jacksonian will tell you that this spring is particularly special thanks to a handful of restaurants offering spring bites menus filled with seasonal specials.

And it doesn't hurt that the City With Soul has four beautifully distinct seasons to inspire them — hot summers, vibrant falls, bright and cold winters, and blooming springs with kaleidoscopic flowers in every direction and a soft breeze filled with the musings of songbirds.

Jackson's Coffee Scene Gets a Spring Refresh

To get started on the right foot, some of Jackson's quintessential coffee shops have expanded their normal menus of fine coffees and teas to include some blooming specials. The Bean in Fondren currently has a pistachio crunch cold brew with sea-salted honey, pistachio, whip & pistachio crumble. They have also added a whipped raspberry mocha and an Earl Grey matcha with a hint of lavender. To really bring it in for the Easter fans, their Peeps latte is a vanilla latte with marshmallow cloud cold foam and a "lil Peeps surprise." Just south, in the Belhaven Town Center, Cultivate Coffee Project has mixed things up with a Dirty Earl (a London fog with a double shot), a cookie crumbled latte, a rose petal matcha, and a strawberry truffle latte topped with a chocolate-covered strawberry.

Hal & Mal's Spring Menu Goes Deep

Further south still, Hal & Mal's has brought to life a deep lineup of lunch and dinner specials to mix up their beloved favorites like tamales and burgers. The spring menu offers everything from standard southern bites like a steak salad and brussels sprouts to new twists like duck fat french fries, lamb meatballs, beercan ceviche, lettuce wraps, and hot crushed beets. The menu also includes a tuna stuffed avocado, Billy's Potato Croquettes (creamy mashed potatoes blended with mixed beef and gruyere, then breaded and fried), a loaded sweet potato, tamale nachos, and hot boursin.

Highland Village Courts the Season

In Highland Village shopping center, the courtyard offers a great place for families to enjoy an outdoor meal in the spring weather where kids can run around and get busy with oversized Connect 4 and cornhole. Restaurants in the shopping center with spring specials include La Presa, Aplos, and Tuk Tuk Boom, and the seasonals are just as different as the concepts. Specials from Tuk Tuk Boom include a smoked crab poke bowl, Bangkok bowl, cucumber salad, and more. La Presa offers a wide variety of authentic Tex-Mex dishes including two spring specials — a Thai pork belly taco and a tuna tostada — while their courtyard neighbor Aplos has added a meatball gyro to their Greek and Mediterranean menu.

Easter Weekend Sips at The Station

The Station in Fondren is known for their delicious hand tossed pizzas and wide selection of beers, as well as their incredible backyard, but this spring they have a few additions to embrace the season of new life. On Saturday, April 4, the bar will be serving a Peep punch mocktail and a carrot mimosa with carrot juice added to the traditional champagne and orange juice cocktail.

Lent-Friendly Fine Dining at Char, Amerigo and Walker's Drive-In

For a finer dining experience, both Char and Amerigo are serving a Lent-focused menu of seafood-forward favorites that don't feel like a sacrifice. Amerigo's Italian menu includes gnocchi veggie primavera, shrimp scampi, and pasta pomodoro, as well as mussels, crab cakes, and calamari. A $13 lunch special includes catfish, coleslaw, and fries. At Char, their spring menu is bursting with flavor including BBQ shrimp and crab claws, and seafood entrées including Creole seafood penne, scallops, seabass, and redfish. Head chef of Walker's Drive-In, Joe Cravens, is brightening the scene with a crispy airline chicken served with Two Dog Farms broccolini, capers, and a citrusy sauce that tastes like the Amalfi Coast.

Caviar and Champagne at Louise's

At Jackson's newest piano bar, Louise's has added to their live music old school pre-prohibition vibe with a caviar service including caviar options and a variety of champagnes to complement each.

Easter Dining

Jackson's restaurants are pulling out all the stops for Easter Sunday as well. BRAVO!, Scrooge's, Manship, Crazy Cat, and Iron Horse Grill are all serving up specials for Easter, a great excuse to gather the family and let someone else do the cooking.
