What’s not to miss if you want to dive in deep to our local arts scene?

The Mississippi Museum of Art has an incredible collection, changing exhibitions, and a gorgeous outdoor art garden. Fischer Galleries is also downtown near the Art Museum and has rotating exhibitions of living artists from the region. Jackson is home to a wide selection of public art.

What’s your favorite?

Adrienne Dominick created a wonderful large-scale work, recently installed on Farish Street in support of the city’s Fertile Ground Project. In “Mama Rose Kitchen,” Domnick uses depictions of her early childhood to revisit the communion of food making. The work prompts the memory to explore the collective experience of family tradition around food. Adrienne is an artist based in Jackson and she also works with me at the Mississippi Arts Commission!

What’s your favorite meal in Jackson?

Elvie’s! Everything is so delicious but my go-to is the oysters, beef tartare, redfish almondine and a martini.
