Mississippi Takes the Spotlight: Six New Artists Announced for National Folk Festival
The National Folk Festival just revealed six exciting new artists for the 82nd edition coming to downtown Jackson November 7-9, 2025 and Mississippi's incredible musical legacy takes center stage in this latest announcement.
Jackson's Own Bobby Rush Headlines the Announcement
Leading the new lineup is Jackson's legendary Bobby Rush, the "King of the Chitlin' Circuit" who has taken up the mantle once held by B.B. King as Mississippi's premier blues ambassador. The National Folk Festival is partnering with the Mississippi NAACP State Conference to present Rush, perfectly timed with their 80th annual convention.
Mississippi's Musical Diversity Shines
The announcement showcases the state's rich cultural tapestry. Ms. Jody from Bay Springs brings her captivating southern soul, telling authentic stories of love and heartache that resonate across the South. Jackson State University's world-famous "Sonic Boom of the South" marching band will electrify audiences with their high-energy performances and precision choreography, representing the vital role of HBCU bands in Southern culture.
Honoring Indigenous Heritage
Oka Hamma Alla Hilha Alhiha from Redwater will perform traditional Choctaw social dancing (Chahta Hihla), wearing ceremonial dress while guided by ancient chanter songs—a beautiful representation of Mississippi's Indigenous roots that spans centuries.
Beyond Mississippi
The announcement also includes the Jeff Little Trio featuring Wayne Henderson's Blue Ridge mountain music and Tres en Punto's romantic trío music from Texas, adding to the festival's diverse cultural celebration.
