Derek Emerson's Masa Mesa Opens, Bringing California-Mexican Flavors to The District
Get ready for tacos, burgers, and serious flavor—Derek Emerson's Masa Mesa is opening the first week of March in the District at Eastover.
California-Mexican Concept Coming to Former Eudora's Space
The restaurateur behind Caet Seafood, Local 463, Little Effie's, and Michelin-recognized Sacred Ground Barbeque has transformed the former Eudora's Mississippi Brasserie space into a California-Mexican concept that's equal parts creative and approachable. Think barbecue fried oyster tacos, coconut fried shrimp with grilled pineapple salsa, and the beloved Sacred Ground Smash Burger—all in a family-friendly atmosphere that takes full advantage of Eastover's beautiful green space.
"I have really loved the look of the outside of that building since Fine and Dandy was there. It's beautiful," Emerson shared with the Clarion Ledger.
Fast-Casual Dining with Housemade Tortillas and Fresh Salsas
Masa Mesa operatese fast-casual style with counter service and full-service bar seating, featuring housemade corn tortillas, super-fresh salsas, and creative twists on familiar favorites. Emerson is pulling inspiration from his time cooking barbecue at Sacred Ground and recipes he's perfected across his restaurant portfolio.
"I don't want people to think this is just going to be a taco shop," he explained. "These will be fun, exciting tacos that I want to do."
