Running alongside it through August 30, REVISITED: Highlights of the Permanent Collection brings together forty-five works from a collection that dates back to 1926, pairing historic pieces by artists like Andrew Bucci and Marie Hull with recent acquisitions from contemporary Mississippi artists.

Meanwhile, at Patton House Gallery, the Back Home Down South exhibition continues through July 15, pairing Mississippi-born Chris Meshel and Mississippi-based Brejenn Allen in a meditation on place, identity, and what it means to return home. All three are free to visit.

Across town, for the budding artist who wants to actually make something, the Drawn Together Beginner Art Class: Learn Watercolors! at Cultivate Coffee Project in Belhaven on July 4 offers a laid-back, all-ages introduction to watercolor — color mixing, brush techniques, and a simple composition to take home — while the adults enjoy a good cup of coffee.
