Elvie’s, Pulito Osteria and Poppy Pies Earn MICHELIN Recognition in JXN

Jackson’s MICHELIN debut last year wasn’t a fluke.

At the October 21 ceremony in Nashville, Elvie’s kept its Bib Gourmand, Pulito Osteria stayed on the Recommended list, and Poppy Pies joined it there. All three sit at Belhaven Town Center. Something in the water? We’re not ruling it out.

Elvie’s Keeps Its Bib Gourmand

Elvie’s, from Chef Hunter Evans and partner Cody McCain, again earned the guide’s nod for exceptional food at moderate prices. Evans calls his cooking “Mississippi French,” built on relationships with local farmers and fishermen. Think Gulf oysters, duck confit cassoulet and Gulf Coast bouillabaisse, backed by sommelier Brandi Carter’s bar program.

Evans points to the people and seasons behind the plate: “It’s really just kind of being true to ourselves, the staff, to the farmers, to the season.”

Pulito Osteria Stays Recommended

Belhaven native Chaz Lindsay came home to open Pulito Osteria after nearly two decades in top kitchens, including Eleven Madison Park, and time cooking in Italy. Pulito turns local ingredients into handmade pasta, wood-fired pizza and seasonal Italian dishes.

Lindsay said of the honor, "[I'm] thrilled we maintained and upheld a standard that we will continue to hold ourselves to every service as we have been since opening in January of 2023."

Poppy Pies Joins the Guide

Gray Welch and JeriAnna Shaw launched Poppy Pies, named for their daughter, as a 2022 pop-up with portable ovens and folding tables. Seven months later, they upgraded to a custom brick oven trailer. In October 2024, they opened at Belhaven Town Center across the hall from Fertile Ground Beer Co. Start with The Captain or the Poppyroni.

"It's surreal to stand amongst those chefs I hold in such high esteem," Gray Welch said. "Our goal is simply to serve Mississippi well, and we look forward to continuing that journey."

Three Picks, One Address

Mississippi French, handmade pasta and brick-oven pizza now sit within steps of each other. Beyond Jackson, Sacred Ground BBQ in Pocahontas kept its Bib Gourmand for Chef Derek Emerson’s Texas-influenced barbecue. Emerson is also the proprietor behind Masa Mesa and Little Effie, both at The District at Eastover in Jackson.

Mississippi earned its place in the guide through a joint bid from Visit Jackson, Visit Mississippi, Coastal Mississippi, Visit Oxford and Travel South USA. Year two confirms it: Jackson is worth the trip.
