In the heart of Jackson, a story of humanity’s better angels will unfold as Come From Away lands at New Stage Theatre from May 27 to June 8. This award-winning musical brings to life the true story of 7,000 airline passengers stranded in Gander, Newfoundland, in the chaotic days following 9/11—and the small town that welcomed them.

New Stage’s production doesn’t just stage the story; it reimagines it. With a newly built, motorized turntable crafted in-house, the show’s kinetic energy and fluid storytelling will sweep audiences into the world of Gander. The folk-rock score, inspired by Celtic rhythms, powers a fast-paced, ensemble-driven performance that underscores themes of empathy and community.

Artistic Director Francine Reynolds notes, “We have been waiting since 2017 to bring this story to Jackson. It’s a testament to the resilience and kindness of ordinary people in extraordinary times.”

Come From Away also marks a milestone for actor Ray McFarland, who appears in his 50th production at New Stage. The cast features talent from across the Southeast, with local standouts alongside Actors’ Equity performers.

In a city known for soulful storytelling and deep-rooted resilience, this show fits right in. Jackson’s vibrant arts scene continues to reflect its values—community, diversity, and connection—and Come From Away is a vivid extension of that spirit.

Evening shows run May 27–31 and June 3–7, with matinees on June 1, 4, and 8. Tickets are $50, with discounts available for students, seniors, military, and groups. Visit newstagetheatre.com or call (601) 948-3533.

Recommended for ages 13 and up, Come From Away is a timely reminder that even in our darkest hours, compassion can light the way.
