Jackson, Mississippi has a weekend set aside just for itself — and it's packed. 601 JXN Day is a city-wide celebration of community, culture, and the people who make the City With Soul worth showing up for.
601 JXN Day is a weekend-long celebration rooted in partnership and community, created to connect those who live, work, and play in the City With Soul. Blending new experiences with beloved local events, it features curated activations, exclusive promotions, and moments designed to spotlight Jackson's culture, creativity, and spirit. From Thursday through Monday, the city comes alive with something for everyone. These are some of the signature events anchoring the weekend, but they're just the beginning. Additional activations, specials and experiences are happening at venues and businesses across Jackson throughout 601 JXN Day weekend.
Thursday, May 28: The Weekend Starts Early
Runners, kick things off Thursday afternoon with the 601 Day 5K/8K Packet Pick-Up at Lululemon Highland Village (4–7pm) — an exclusive shop night with discounts and music to get you race-ready for Saturday.
Thursday night, head to The Walk-In for Needle Drop w/ DJ Venom (7pm–midnight), where DJ Young Venom spins a themed vinyl set spotlighting Jackson artists alongside dinner and cocktails. Hal & Mal's and The Walk-In will be running $6.01 specials starting this evening and continuing all the way through Monday's closing celebration.
Friday, May 29: Field Day, Shakeout Run, and Kickoff
Friday afternoon, the OOO – Out of Office Day Sunset Reset takes over The Bean Path (3–7pm). Teams compete in a field day format — no emails, no meetings, just outdoor competition and good energy before the sun goes down. When it wraps, the crowd flows straight into the official 601 JXN Day Weekend kickoff at Cathead Distillery.
That kickoff is the JXN Run Club Shakeout Run at Cathead Distillery on Farish Street (6–9pm). From 6–8pm, loosen up your legs, grab your race packet, and connect with vendors. The energy carries through 9pm with food trucks and live music — a full send-off into the heart of the weekend.
Saturday, May 30: Runs, Markets, and Vinyl
Saturday is the biggest day of the weekend. It opens with the 4th Annual 601 Day 5K/8K starting and ending at Fertile Ground Beer Co. in Belhaven. Every pace is welcome — walkers, joggers, and runners all belong here. The race is sold out.
Later in the afternoon, the 601 Market takes over Union Market on West Capitol Street with local vendors, food, and a DJ set. The market will also launch a summer movie series in partnership with the Mississippi Film Society.
As the afternoon gives way to evening, JXN Spinners Vinyl Club takes over Offbeat from 6–8pm. This month's theme is Bands — bring a record you love and share it with a room full of people who get it. Think Earth, Wind & Fire, The Roots, Nirvana, Paramore, and everything in between. Offbeat will also have curated crates available for purchase, so come ready to dig.
Sunday, May 31: Community, Creativity, and Open Decks
Sunday starts with the Briarwood Unity 5K, a community-focused race hosted by Briarwood Arts Center (8:30–10am). It's a celebration of neighborhood pride on Briarwood Drive and beyond — walk it, jog it, or cheer from the sidelines. The race wraps up and a block party takes over from 2–6pm.
Starting at noon, Offbeat hosts the 601 JXN Day Hangout through 7pm — a full afternoon of music and hands-on creativity. Lucid Ink will be on-site for custom t-shirt printing, a Skate Jam runs from 1–5pm, and Breaks 'n Brews from 3–7pm opens the decks for anyone who wants to spin or just soak it in.
Monday, June 1: The Closing Celebration
The weekend closes out Monday night with the 601 JXN Day Closing Celebration at Hal & Mal's & The Walk-In on Commerce Street. Karaoke, Blues Monday, trivia, drink specials — it's a proper send-off for a weekend that earned one. Come for Happy Hour or stay all night.
