Here's to the Week Ahead: January 3-9

Happy 2022, City With Soul! We're kicking it off with music and motor cars. Catch the sounds of the city from local and regional talent to the hum of well-oiled machine!

With the Omicron variant causing a higher than average number of COVID-19 infections, we strongly encourage you to follow COVID-19 guidelines set forth by the Mississippi State Department of Health and additional guidelines by the City of Jackson (facial coverings ARE still required in the city of Jackson, along with social distancing). Vaccines are now available for anyone 5 and up and boosters are available for all adults.

Rohan Solo with DJ ANG Live
Martin's Downtown • Friday, 10 pm
Rohan Solo is a solo electronic/bass music project featuring Rohan Prakash of Space Kadet and Higher Learning. With his bands, he has opened for acts such as Griz, STS9, Big Gigantic, The Disco Biscuits, Tycho and others. Tickets are $10 on Eventbrite.

BankPlus Racing Vehicle Extravaganza
Mississippi Trademart • Saturday and Sunday
The 32nd Annual Racing Vehicle Extravaganza is Mississippi's longest indoor car show. Come meet stars from the TV hit show "Fastest Cars of the Dirty South". This family-friendly event is a southern show tradition and the first show of the year. It's Saturday and Sunday, 8 am - 5 pm. There's free admission for kids 8 and under thanks to Bank Plus.

Surfwax with The Start Up
Martin's Downtown • Saturday, 10 pm
Compared to bands such as Nirvana, Fidlar, and Cloud Nothings Surfwax is "sometimes warmly melodic, sometimes just straight up loud, fuzzy and chaotic," equally angsty and ambient, driving yet melodic emo-laced indie rock. Tickets are $10 on Eventbrite.

Jackson Indie Music Week 2022

Sunday, January 9 - Sunday, January 16
Central Mississippi’s music festival featuring independent artists of ALL genres including Rock, Hip-Hop, EDM, Blues, Singer-Songwriter, Pop, and Film & Video is back for its 6th installation. A week-long series of concerts, showcases, panels, and parties, spotlighting creatives from Mississippi and abroad, Jackson Indie Music Week aims to honor what has come to be known as the “Birthplace of America’s Music.” Tickets and event passes are available at
