Valentines All Weekend in Jxn

Who says Valentine's Day can only be celebrated on February 14? This year the day to celebrate romance falls on a Monday, the day many restaurants are closed. Not to worry! Clever Cupids will make reservations for an early Valentine's night out.

Crazy Cat Eat Up

Crazy Cat Eat Up - 1491 Canton Mart Road

Start as early as Thursday, February 10, at Crazy Cat Eat Up in Canton Mart Square. The restaurant, typically a popular lunch spot, has dinner service Thursday through Saturday, and it's worth starting your Valentine's celebration before the rush.

Start with masa fried gulf oysters, a meat and cheese board to share or grilled royal red shrimp. Entrees include such delicacies as grilled beef tenderloin, honey roasted pork shank or nightly redfish, seasonally prepared with southern inspiration. And don't forget dessert - Crazy Cat started as a bakery, so their sweet treats are always sure to please.

Rather stay in? Stop by Crazy Cat's takeout store, Geraldine and Esma's Kitchen, and pick up a prepared dish to heat and eat in the comfort of your own home.

Elvie's - 809 Manship Street

Elvie's is another weekend spot, closed on Mondays, but worth making reservations for the weekend. Plan ahead and order the chef's tasting menu, or order what's fresh on the menu.

Begin with Elvie's private label bowfin caviar appetizer paired with Zapp's potato chips or French Hermit oysters fresh from the Gulf Coast. Charcuterie offerings include chicken liver pate, house-cured meats and southern cheeses. For the most romantic dinner ever, order the Chateaubriand for two, or perhaps the confit de canard, redfish almondine or steak frites.

No romantic dinner is complete without a decadent dessert, and Elvie's delivers with salted caramel and chocolate brownies, citron souffle with Chantilly cream and espresso layered pudding stacked with dulce de leche, mascarpone, vanilla wafers, and pralines.

Lou's Full-Serv - 904 East Fortification

Make a reservation at Lou's Full-Serv for a southern-inspired meal in a casual, vintage industrial atmosphere. Each dish is prepared with soul, and every diner is treated as a guest in owner-Chef Louis Rose's kitchen. Also closed on Monday, plan on dining at Lou's the weekend before Valentine's Day.

Dinner includes snacks, main plates and salads. Whet your appetite with shrimp crunch, mushroom toast or crawfish fondue. One of Lou's most popular salads is the anti-Caesar, made with an anchovy-less dressing. Then try either Redfish #1 or Redfish #2, depending on how you would like it prepared and what sides you prefer. Or take a plunge and order the cast iron chicken.

Dessert? Of course! Lou's serves up delicious bourbon cake or try their warm blueberry "cake" cobbler.

Dumbo's on Duling - 3100 North State Street

Dumbo's on Duling is closed on Monday as well, but the weekend is an ideal time to eat in Fondren's popular dinner spot. Start with snacks like crispy crawfish wontons or baked lobster and artichoke dip, or try the whipped feta with honey, pistachios with warm pita bread. Dumbo's features several salads and soups on their menu.

The main attraction at Dumbo's is their fried chicken. No one does it quite like they do, served with honey butter biscuits that melt in your mouth. Pair your chicken with truffle fries just to be fancy. Other entrees include smoked short rib barbacoa, seared diver sea scallops and butcher's cut – global and seasonally inspired.

Dumbo's features a carefully curated wine list and serves both classic cocktails and their signature craft cocktails.
