Sizzling Sumer Shows Include Blues, Country, Rock and Tributes Galore

The summer concert forecast in Jackson is for thundering beats, sizzling guitar riffs and red-hot lyrics.

With literally dozens of concerts to choose from, music lovers can enjoy a different genre every single week of this sun-soaked season. Here's just a sampling of what's available.

June 3
Turn the heat down to a slow burn with blues artist Jarekus Singleton and his band at Martin's Downtown. The Washington Post calls Singleton "an exciting new young blues guitarist with melody, hooks, swagger and a strong, original voice" whose "lyrics are modern, personal, acutely poetic and deeply mature." $10. June 7

Treat yourself to dinner, drinks and jazz with the smooth sounds of the Raphael Semmes Quartet at Hal & Mal's in the main dining room every Tuesday (6:30 pm, no cover).

You won't want to miss the Godmother of Soul, Patti LaBelle, coming soon to Thalia Mara Hall. With a singing career spanning more than five decades in R&B, soul, pop and gospel, Rolling Stone includes LaBelle on their list of the 100 Greatest Singers of all time. Tickets are $55 and up. The Disco Stranglers: Eagles Tribute Band
is coming back to Duling Hall. Specializing in the performance of the entire "Hotel California" album, the show also includes hit favorites and album cuts that never graced radio airwaves. General admission tickets are $20. Info and tickets here.

Damien Jurado with special guest Chris Pureka

Drivin N Cryin with special guest Katy Guillen & The Drive
. Celebrating their 35th anniversary together, Atlanta-based folk-rock act Drivin N Cryin have spent most of their career on tour developing their unique sound: a little drivin' rock n roll and a little country twang. The Stolen Faces
, Nashville's Tribute to The Grateful Dead, are coming to Martin's Downtown! The Grateful Dead wrote great songs, were excellent musicians and terrific improvisers, and never played a song the same way twice. The Stolen Faces capture that spirit, covering the Dead's expansive catalog and delivering it with the sort of energy and spontaneity that just might convince you that you've been transported back to 1971. $10. Blue Man Group

Luckenbach with special guests T. B. Ledford and the Accumulators
. This Willie Nelson tribute band will make you feel like listening to the Red Headed Stranger! Hear every hit from "On the Road Again" to "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain." American Aquarium at Duling Hall
. Alt-country rockers American Aquarium have recorded eight albums in as many years, establishing themselves as one of the country's most prolific rising acts. The quality of the band's work matches its quantity, treating listeners to a creative hybrid sound that includes bittersweet slide guitar and gnarled vocals. Still Standing: A Tribute to Elton John
is the ultimate visual and musical event bringing all of John's timeless classics to Martin's Downtown. "Still Standing has such a legendary stage presence, you wouldn't know that it wasn't Sir Elton John himself standing up there," says Biloxi's Hard Rock Café.
