Where to Go for King Cake In JXN
Ask Jacksonians where to get a king cake and the answers vary. Wiseguys may say, “New Orleans” and, while fair, why not let NOLA come to you?
From authentic Big Easy bakeries to local bakeries’ own spins, let the good times roll with these JXN spots for king cake.
Broad Street Baking Company - Fondren
The most prolific of local king cake purveyors, Broad Street sells themed king cakes nearly year-round. But their traditional Mardi gras-inspired king cakes are only for sale during Carnival season which runs through February 16. The bakery’s original almond cream cheese king cakes are joined by a NOLA-traditional cinnamon king cake and a savory crawfish dip variety, made with cheddar, jalapeño brioche and creamy crawfish dip filling (a 48-hour notice is required for these made-to-order cakes).
Campbell's Bakery - Fondren
A JXN-staple bakery, Campbell’s offers a full size ($25-$28) and smaller sized, individual version ($4) of their iced-brioche king cake. Flavors are the traditional cinnamon sugar and cinnamon cream cheese, with specialty flavors pecan praline, blueberry cream cheese, apple cream cheese and strawberry cream cheese rounding out the list.
Beagle Bagel - Highland Village in LeFleur East
Known for their specialty bagels, cream cheeses and sandwiches, Beagle Bagel is also a go-to bakery spot for cinnamon rolls, cookies, cakes – and king cakes. Traditional brioche dough is flavored cinnamon, cream cheese, strawberry and blueberry, available in the case by-the-slice or as a whole cake.
PJ's Coffee - Fondren
Coffee shop PJ’s brings a taste of Louisiana to JXN with traditional king cake by-the-slice from Gambino’s. The shop has king cakes (whole or by the slice), mini king cakes (both gluten free and regular), and a ton of new king cake flavored seasonal drinks, including a King Cake Latte or creamy Velvet Ice, and a coffee blend named, you guessed it, king cake.
Last year, La Brioche offered king cakes and said this year, they will make a new recipe and will have them available soon.
Barrelhouse showcased a king cake burger while Saltine featured King Cake cinnamon rolls every Tuesday. Elvie’s offered a Galette des Rois filled with almond cream and served with ice cream and Brent’s Drugs had a king cake milkshake and Corner Market grocery stores (Fondren, Belhaven and Maywood Mart), Kroger and Whole Foods sold king cakes, too.
Watch for their updated offerings in the coming weeks!
