Bright Lights Belhaven Nights Cancels

The 17th annual Bright Lights Belhaven Nights street festival is canceled.

The Greater Belhaven Foundation (GBF) said in a statement they had been monitoring the most recent developments related to the COVID-19 pandemic and that data factored into the decision.

“Due to the increased number of COVID-19 cases, the Jackson area healthcare workers and hospital systems are stretched beyond capacity. While in the process of discussing and evaluating this encompassing situation, GBF was informed by The City of Jackson that the event is cancelled due to the increased COVID-19 cases. While GBF is disappointed that the 2021 event will not take place, GBF fully supports the decision made by The City in order to help mitigate the spread of this virus. GBF thanks all coordinators, sponsors and volunteers that were working so hard to make this event possible,” the release read.

“We are disappointed that the current COVID situation has impacted Bright Lights Belhaven Nights,” said Casey Creasey, Executive Director of GBF. “We were optimistic that everything was moving forward, however, the increased number of cases has escalated greatly over the past several days. We support The City in their decision as this event attracts thousands of people. We thank the Mayor and his administration for this difficult decision and their concern for the public’s safety as we navigate unprecedented times.”

Advance tickets purchased through Ticketmaster will be refunded automatically to the original method of payment used at the time of purchase. No action is required. Tickets purchased at the GBF office can be refunded by returning the wristband. Call 601-352-8850 to set-up a date and time to return the wristband to the GBF office.

To honor this longstanding event and support healthcare workers, GBF is asking neighbors to put lights on their houses Saturday, August 14.
