About RSS Feeds
What is RSS?
RSS feeds are used to:
- Gather, read, or quickly scan frequently updated headlines from a variety of sources using a "News Aggregator" or "Newsreader" program.
- Incorporate syndicated headlines into their personal weblogs (often called "blogs") as a way to display information from different publishers.
How do I use an RSS feed?
Luckily there are a few easy ways for you, the reader to take advantage of RSS feeds.
Browser bookmarks (easiest)
- Both Microsoft Internet Explorer (version 7 only) and Mozilla Firefox and have built-in support for RSS feeds. Look for the
icon in the content bar for Internet Explorer and the address bar for Firefox.
E-mail clients such as Outlook 2007
- Both Microsoft Outlook 2007 (part of the Microsoft Office 2007 suite) and Mozilla Thunderbird (free) have RSS capabilities. Refer to their respective documentation to learn how to add your RSS feeds.
News aggegrators
- RSS readers or news aggregators allow users to view content from specified sources (RSS feeds). The information is automatically updated and displays the newer information on top.

Portals such as Google's personalized home page and MyYahoo
- Google's personalized home page and MyYahoo have the option of easily adding RSS feeds to your portal's home page. Add content to MyYahoo
