November 20, 2007 - Holiday Events Added to Celebration of Lights in Smith Park

Smith Park in downtown Jackson will be transformed into a winter wonderland, beginning Tuesday, December 4 when the switch is flipped on the third annual “Celebration of Lights” holiday display during the Celebration of Lights Opening Soiree, which takes place from 4:30 until 6:30 p.m. Live music by ART, hors d’oeuvres by Koi and libations will be featured at the free event, which is open to the public.
The brilliant display of animation, color and light will be illuminated each evening after that, including holidays, through the first weekend of January 2008. In addition to the display and the soiree, a winter film festival geared towards families is scheduled for Thursday, December 20. It is also free and open to the public.
Family Movie Night will begin at 5:30 p.m. with free Domino’s pizza and Pepsi, and a Christmas choral performance by Cade Chapel Church’s “Voices Of Love.” After the performance will be a screening of the original production of Dr. Suess’s “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” featuring the voice of Boris Karloff, followed by the feature-length film, “Santa Clause 2: The Mrs. Clause.”
The spectacular “Celebration of Lights” display and events are all part of Jingle Bell Jackson, a celebration of holiday events in Mississippi’s Capital City that was launched in 2004 as a way to market Jackson as a holiday destination.
A program of the Jackson Convention & Visitors Bureau, “Celebration of Lights” is sponsored by Entergy Mississippi, Regions, Trustmark Bank, Dale & Associates Architects, Greater Jackson Arts Council, Downtown Jackson Partners, Hinds County Economic Development District, City of Jackson, JBHM Architects PA, Greater Jackson Chamber Partnership, Koi Restaurant, WLBT, Brown Bottling Co., Domino’s Pizza, Southern Beverage, Destination Jackson and Cade Chapel M.B.
