About the Jackson Mississippi Convention and Visitors Bureau
In 1983, the state legislature established the Jackson Convention & Visitors Bureau (JCVB). Senate Bill #3080 authorized the creation of JCVB, identified its purpose, and provided for funding through the levying of a 1% sales tax upon hotels/motels and restaurants. These funds form the foundation on which the Bureau promotes Jackson as a tourist, group tour, trade show, and convention/meeting destination.
The mission of the Jackson Convention & Visitors Bureau is to attract, promote and facilitate tourism to and with our market.
The overall goal of the Jackson Convention & Visitors Bureau is to cause major economic impact for Jackson through programs designed to identify, attract and service conventions and meetings, trade shows, group tours and consumer travelers, while impacting the quality of life of local citizens.
In 1983, the state established legislation authorizing the creation of the Jackson Convention & Visitors Bureau (JCVB). By doing so, it identified its purpose and provided funding through the levying of a 1% sales tax on hotels/motels and restaurants. The Jackson Convention & Visitors Bureau is governed by a nine member Board of Directors. The Board of Directors represent community constituent groups; they are recommended by each group’s governing industry and organization assemblies and confirmed by the city of Jackson’s Mayor.
The Bureau’s three departments (Administration, Marketing, and Sales and Services) provide services to visitors, conventions, group tour operators, local hotels, restaurants, shops, special events, and attractions, and help to bring millions of dollars into the local economy annually.
